PTTAC Establishes Red Seal Champions Committee

The Professional Truck Training Alliance of Canada (PTTAC) along with other likeminded stakeholders continue the drive for Red Seal Apprenticeship for the Commercial Transport Truck Operator in Canada.

The Alliance will conduct two more Round Table meetings; one in Nova Scotia on October 8th with the Trucking Human Resource Sector Council Atlantic, and one on October 15th in Alberta hosted by PTTAC.

The Round Tables on Red Seal have been held across the Nation for the last three months and PTTAC and stakeholders have included schools, carriers, insurance, government and service providers.

Jim Campbell, Chairman of the PTTAC is thrilled with results and commented, “Through every meeting, with every stakeholder group, in every Province that we have met with, we have asked one question at the end of the meeting. Do you support in principle that the profession of a Commercial Transport Truck Operator be deemed a skilled trade and Red Seal Apprenticeship? The support has been a resounding yes.”

The Alliance will share all information and data with the committee formed by PTTAC. The Red Seal Champions Committee consists of five (5) schools, three (3) National Associations, two (2) national carriers, one (1) private carrier and one (1) for-hire carrier. The Red Seal Champion Committee has been selected from PTTAC member volunteers and the group will be chaired by Don MacDonald of CCA Truck Driver Training Ltd. Alberta and Co-Chairperson of PTTAC.

“We have brought together a tremendous amount of expertise from PTTAC to form the Red Seal Champions Committee. All the people on this committee are very knowledgeable and experienced in education and training. Their input will be very valuable as we move forward.” added Campbell.
