Recent Announcements Concern the Professional Truck Training Alliance of Canada
The Professional Truck Training Alliance of Canada (PTTAC) has concerns for road safety in Canada after the recent announcements from the government in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
“Reducing hours for training entry-level commercial drivers and having reciprocity agreements granted for commercial drivers coming from other countries is in the opinion of the PTTAC and its membership, jeopardizing road safety in our country” says Jim Campbell, Chairperson of the PTTAC.
The Alliance plans on addressing these concerns with audiences which will include industry stakeholders and government in Manitoba and Saskatchewan in upcoming round table meetings.
The Recent announcements in Saskatchewan - https://sasktrucking.com/news/saskatchewan-trucking-association-concerned-over-safety-implications-of-new-class-1-driver-exemption and Alberta - https://globalnews.ca/news/10390981/alberta-learning-program-replace-mandatory-entry-level-training/ is giving preferential treatment to certain sectors (agriculture) of the transportation industry. Collectively the PTTAC membership has concerns about how this will affect road safety in Canada.
The Alliance believes that proper education and testing is paramount for agriculture workers and existing commercial drivers coming from other countries before getting behind the wheel of a commercial truck.
Safer Roads Canada is a board member of PTTAC and is an advocacy group formed after the tragic Humboldt crash- Families of Humboldt Broncos crash victims say they're shocked after province relaxes some licensing rules | CBC News have publicly expressed their concerns regarding the recent announcements.
“We look forward to having continued open dialogue and communication with industry and government regarding these announcements and having more discussion on the need for Red Seal Apprenticeship in Canada” added Campbell.
